A Day Trip to the Hoover Dam

While visiting Las Vegas, we decided to take a day trip to see one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Modern World’, The Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam is only about 30 miles outside of Las Vegas.  On the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. There is a spot where you can put one foot in Nevada and the other in Arizona.

There are guided tours, free parking (but it’s quite a distance. Don’t be cheap, pay for the parking), and a spot to get ice cream.

It can get pretty damn hot here! We went in May and it was already 102 degrees!  Make sure your phone is fully charged and that there’s plenty of storage for awesome pics!  You can definitely bring your own bottled water, so be sure to have some for each guest in your party.

Spice Up The Experience!

Adrenaline Helicopter Rides
Our first helicopter ride. I was scared, can you tell?

Take a Helicopter ride..unless you’re a scary cat like me and keep your eyes closed over half the ride ha!  About 10 miles from the Hoover Dam, there is an affordable facility that offers helicopter tours. I was scared but my daughter enjoyed it!  Click the link for the helicopter touring company: Adrenaline Helicopter Ride

Also in the area is Lake Mead.  Lake Mead is only about 10 miles away from the Hoover Dam. You can fish, rent jet skis, and even take a dinner cruise.

It’s a pretty quick trip that really only requires a couple of hours.  For one, if you go in the summer, it’s extremely hot and you’re not going to want to spend a ton of time walking in the sun.  If you have smaller children, I definitely recommend putting them in the stroller for this one.  Secondly, it’s a dam and once you’re stared at it in awe and took a few pictures, that’s all there is folks.
